The restaurant

In the course of lunchtime, our bento boxes (filled with fish, meat or poultry with rice, vegetables and a beverage) are paramount, ensuring a quick and tasteful meal for our clients who often are in a hurry. In the evening, our gastronomic offers are quite different: The restaurant and its concept invite the guests to stay and guarantee an all-embracing experience of taste and an authentic immersion in the Japanese cuisine that has much more to offer than sushi. A big variety of small dishes can be shared and handed round. With only 50 seats, the Nozomi preserves its cozy and familiar charm and is therefore perfect for small groups, having the desire of feasting through the versatile menu and enjoying themselves.

The rooms

Just above the restaurant, in the facility of the (prison)hotel Barabas, three new and cosy rooms with Japanese decor guarantee a restful residence. Make yourself comfortable in 20 square meters, enjoy the beautiful interior design and explore Lucerne’s old town on your own or just get some well-deserved sleep.

Please note: For booking and check-in please contact the reception of the hotel Barabas.

The hosts

The Nozomi is headed by chef Benjamin Egli-Iwasaki. For more than two years, the passionate chef had travelled through Japan and learnt a lot about the local cuisine. He had also earned recognition for his work at some of Switzerland’s best restaurants. He started his career at the Grand Hotel National of Lucerne, then went on to the Ticino, Gstaad, Chur, Lucerne (sous-chef of the restaurant Mill’ Feuille) and eventually to Zurich, where he was the successful manager of a Japanese restaurant. In tandem with his wife Yuko, he now loves to look after the guests’ well-being at the restaurant Nozomi. Meanwhile, the couple has a son called Akira.
